Goa express rammed into Mewar express
It is feared that at least 15 people were killed and 50 others injured when the Goa Express rammed into the Mewar Express which was stationery near Mathura this Wednesday morning. The Goa Express was heading towards Delhi and the accident took place between Mathura and Brindavan stations at an outer signal just 55 kms from New Delhi. An unreserved compartment of the Mewar Express suffered damage and many passengers are feared to be trapped in the damaged bogey. Gas cutters are being used to free them and rescue operations are carried out by the army jawans. The traffic enroute Agra has hence been disrupted and the senior officers of the Mathura administration have already reached the accident site. Since the Delhi south and Delhi West routes are quite busy, rail traffic has been severely affected and several trains have been diverted. The Intercity Express from Agra to Hazrat Nizamuddin has been cancelled and Taj express and Shatabdhi from Delhi will most likely be delayed, according to official sources. The railway minister Mamata Banerjee was quick to order an enquiry into the incident and announced a compensation of five lakh rupees to the families of those who have lost their lives in the accident and 10 000 rupees for those who suffered minor injuries. The UP agriculture minister also announced an exgratia of Rs ten lakh to the next of the kin who died, apart from a job. Thekkady boat mishap
Boat mishap in Kerala: 33 people were feared killed as a boat capsized in Thekkady lake, the famous tourist place in Kerala. Massive rescue efforts underway at the site where Kerala State Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) boat sank carrying tourists drowned. 33 bodies have been recovered from the spot and 13 tourists were rescued. 55 ft depth at the spot in river of mishap. The boat Jalakanyaka owned by KTDC drowned when a boat carrying 76 tourists sank in Mullaperiyar river in Kerala. Poor light and heavy rain are main obstacles for rescue operations. The boat sank at about 5.15 p.m. It was carrying a group of tourists from various states mostly from Karnataka, Andhra besides a few foreign tourists. Majority of dead are women and children. The Kerala government has asked the assistance of naval divers for search and rescue operations. Around 40 divers from the Southern Naval Command here have left for Thekkady. Chief Minister V. S.
