  NDTV Channel announced annual awards for the top achievers in different fields in a function held in New Delhi. No Chief Minister from South India failed to win an award in any segment– indicating the shift. Sachin Tendulkar won the "Indian of the year" award.  Significant statements:  Nitish Kumar: "I will confine to Bihar."  Prithvirah Chavan: "If it is an illegal construction, Adarsh must be demolished."  NDTV awards of the year:  South Indian superstar Rajnikanth won the "Entertainer of the decade" award.    1.   Slumdog Millionaire wins 8 OSCAR awards at 81st awards ceremony at Kodak theatre in Los Angeles. Resul Pookutty of India won Oscar award for Sound Mixing in Slumdog Millionaire. A.R. Rahman won Oscar awards for best original score and best music (song) in Slumdog Millionaire.  Jai Ho Song: Best Song  Music: A.R. Rahman   Lyrics: Gulzar.  Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for Oscar (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) awards in 9 categories and for the first time, a film with an Indian soul has captured the imagination of the film world. Slumdog Millionaire was made basing on Vikas Swaroop's novel Q&A. Indian technicians finally caught the attention of Western movie world. Slumdog Millionaire is a small budget film ($15 million) but already collected $220 million at Box-office.      Breaking News: Smile Pinki won Oscar in short documentary category. This is a short documentary on the life of Pinki, a girl with cleft lip from Rural India.
